Home Insights and Trends Georgia Lee tells her techno story

Georgia Lee, the stage name of Georgia Colloridi, has undergone numerous transformations in her career. After a period in London, she has reconnected with the vibrant energy of her origins in Rome. Her journey includes notable stints as a resident at the Circolo degli Artisti with the event Amigdala, involvement with the underground band Electronoir and leading Telasuoniamo, a free workshop aimed at introducing women to DJing and using electronic music as a tool for female empowerment. Marking her triumphant return is the EP “Distorted Love” (fanlink.tv/GR358), released in July on Beatport under the Gain Records label by Sisko Electrofanatik. The EP features the original track along with two remixed versions by Sisko Electrofanatik and Ida Mandato. The concept of the EP draws from the epidemic of toxic relationships, reflecting not only romantic entanglements but also self-related conflicts. Georgia Lee reveals: “‘Distorted Love EP’ echoing Kafka’s Metamorphosis, symbolizing rebirth and the catharsis that eventually occurs in all wounded individuals”. The EP out last 6th July at the Amorgos Pre-Festival in Greece and will be featured at various summer events across different locations. Looking ahead to the autumn-winter indoor season.

Georgia Lee tells her story for MusicMe

What inspired you to focus on the techno genre for this EP and how does it reflect your artistic vision?

Techno is my main style when I play since ages; when I had my residency with Amigdala, one of the most important alternative party in Rome of the last 10 years, I shared the decks with a lot of techno artists and I decided to release my first EP focused on this sound because it makes me feel in total connection with the dance floor when I am on stage.

Can you walk us through the production process of the EP? Did you incorporate any unique techniques or equipment to achieve your desired sound?

“Distorted Love” is the solo original track on this release and it opens proceedings with an hammering kick drum and industrial textures layered over an acid bassline. The breakdown introduces a tense melody before the drums slam back in and the acid line swells with growing intensity.

Which track on the EP is your personal favorite and what was the creative inspiration behind it?

The EP is composed by Distorted Love, original mix, one remix by Sisko, the label manager of GAIN Records who released the track and a final remix by Ida Mandato, another talented and well know artist from the roman underground scene. I like all of them, because both the remixes give power to the entire EP and add a great value with the personal vision and interpretation from the artists.

How do you see the current state of the techno scene and where do you think your EP fits within it?

I see the actual state of techno like a melting pot of genres and styles; it is not easy to give a unique definition, because every track and every sound is shaped on the personality of the artists. At the moment the main “mood”is the hard techno, especially if you talk about female techno artists of the moment. I personally prefer lower bpm and more melodic hypnotic sound, because it reflects my personality in ife and on stage.

Do you have any exciting plans for live performance or collaborations?

I am working on a project which will take place at NEO Club, in Rome for the next season (from October) and on a Female Label with Sisko and a Music Festival, but more details will come soon!
