The Italian DJ and producer Redoxx, now a citizen of the world and resident in Dubai, lands on June 7th at Tantra in Ibiza. In anticipation of his DJ set, here are his words before the appointment in the Balearics. “Over the years, thanks to music, I have been lucky enough to see many places, from Europe to Bahrain, from Dubai to Shanghai,” says Redoxx, “but my set at Tantra will be my debut in Ibiza. It is difficult to describe exactly the emotions I feel in view of this event, because the desire to play my music, on the island which for years has presented itself as the temple of dance, has always been present within me since the day I joined I started to fall in love with electronics. Probably, even before starting to play in clubs, that dream was already there.”
You find yourself constantly “looking forward”, thinking about the next track to produce and the next event, but what if you decided to look back for a moment? “I’m sure that that 14-year-old boy who did nothing but blast all kinds of music into his headphones would be very proud of the fact that now he has the opportunity to bring his music to the stage in Ibiza.” Your love for culture and consequently the Middle Eastern sound, after living for more than 5 years in Dubai, is stronger than ever. “I consider myself incredibly lucky to have had the opportunity to interface with a culture so different and distant from my own, and this has enriched me greatly both from a human and artistic point of view. I want to give the people who come to hear me a taste of what has become everyday life for me.”
The beauty of being a DJ also lies in the fact that often you never know what awaits you until a few minutes before a set. “In my opinion, creating expectations before the set can be very dangerous for an artist. The risk you run is to remain attached to an idea, a situation and an atmosphere that are not always replicable in any situation. Personally, I realized that the fewer expectations I have when I enter the DJ booth, the more I am able to be open to welcoming the ‘moment’ that will be created during the evening”.
Redoxx will mainly play his music. “The goal is to get to the point where 90% of my DJ sets are my own productions, published and unpublished. This year has been nothing short of ‘revolutionary’ for me. I stepped away from live shows and all social media to focus solely on production. I can’t wait to play all the tracks I’ve worked on this year live, that’s probably the most exciting part for me. It will be an Afro house DJ set with some melodic influences, but I don’t feel like spoiling more than that.”
Happy and satisfied to have signed his latest tracks with Natura Viva and Lump Records, and be part of the roster of a label that has signed artists of the caliber of WhoMadeWho, Blondish, Enrico Sangiuliano or Macel Plex, Redoxx is constantly working on new music . For live performances, Redoxx has scheduled performances in Rome, Amsterdam and Bali.
