In Search Of Sunrise, the legendary compilation series, celebrates its 25th anniversary with a monumental 20th edition, featuring six exclusive mixes by some of the biggest names in electronic music. From its groundbreaking debut in 1999, when DJ Tiësto first brought this series to life, In Search Of Sunrise quickly became a benchmark for trance and progressive fans around the globe. Now, in 2024, the series makes a grand return, with a celebratory edition that unites six world-renowned artists, each contributing their unique flair to this iconic project.
The story of In Search Of Sunrise is deeply rooted in electronic music history. When Tiësto released the first volume, its success was both immediate and unprecedented. In an already thriving music scene, the album redefined mix compilations and elevated Tiësto’s status to new heights. With seven editions under his belt, Tiësto eventually parted ways with the series, allowing it to evolve under new creative leadership. Richard Durand took over in 2010, introducing the concept of co-mixing and exploring new sonic territories, visiting locations such as India, South Africa, and his home city of Amsterdam. After delivering six editions, Durand passed the torch, and the series went on a well-deserved three-year hiatus.
In 2018, the series was relaunched with Markus Schulz at the helm, marking a new era for In Search Of Sunrise. Schulz has since guided the series with steady hands, delivering editions that respect its origins while adding a modern twist. The co-mixing formula has remained, allowing renowned DJs such as Gabriel & Dresden, Andy Moor, Jerome Isma-Ae, Giuseppe Ottaviani, and more to leave their mark on the project.
For the 25th anniversary, Black Hole Recordings announced the release of In Search Of Sunrise 20, a monumental compilation featuring over 100 tracks across six mixes. The six artists chosen for this special occasion are Solarstone, Airscape (Johan Gielen), Super8 & Tab, York, ZOYA, and, of course, Markus Schulz. Each artist brings their unique musical history to the mix, creating a seamless blend of past, present, and future electronic sounds.
The 20th edition is filled with standout moments. York kicks off his mix with “Reachers Of Civilisation,” just as Tiësto did 25 years ago, a classy nod to the series’ origins. He ends with “Farewell to the Moon,” a track that perfectly encapsulates the spirit of In Search Of Sunrise. Markus Schulz closes his disc with a “lost” 2019 remix of Accadia’s “Into the Dawn,” a track that resonates deeply with fans of the series. Solarstone brings back his classic “Solarcoaster,” while Super8 & Tab revive “Helsinki Scorchin’,” one of the key tracks from the Panama and Latin America editions. And there’s a tribute to Chicane, one of the most emblematic producers of the series’ style, with Markus and ZOYA paying homage to his timeless influence.
This edition is not only a celebration of the past but also a look toward the future, offering a tracklist that spans 25 years of electronic music history. The six DJs have masterfully combined timeless classics with contemporary gems, creating a musical journey that transcends generations of listeners.
In Search Of Sunrise 20 is available in various formats, including a six-disc box set, six-mix digital release, triple vinyl, and all major streaming platforms.
