The Pacha cherries are the twin red cherries that serve as the logo of Pacha, the club brand born in Sitges, near Barcelona, in 1967 and settled in Ibiza since 1973.
The name came first. It was suggested by the founder’s wife, Marisa Cobos, who joked that the club would let them live like pachas, an old Turkish title for a lord. As for the fruit, the island’s favourite story, retold by the guide Ibiza Spotlight, says the cherries were inspired by the make-up of the Spanish actress Carmen Sevilla; it is a charming tale, though hard to document further. What is certain is the logo’s commercial pull. The cherries glow on the club’s white façade and travel on merchandise worldwide, and when the club’s staff wanted to book a young David Guetta in the early 2000s, part of the money reportedly came from selling branded T-shirts.
