closing party

The last night of a club's summer, part graduation ball and part farewell tour, with longer hugs than any other night of the year.

A closing party is the final event of a club’s season, traditionally held in Ibiza between late September and October before the doors shut for winter.

The most famous of all was the last. In October 2016 Space, the Ibiza club that had run for twenty-seven years, threw its final closing fiesta. Tickets went fast, the party stretched across most of a day, and Carl Cox, who had held his residency there for fifteen years, played the main room from six in the morning until noon, with ice cannons firing over the crowd. The resident on the outdoor terrace was known for sets of eight hours. Closing parties follow their own script: every track becomes an anthem, every goodbye is slightly too long, and by spring the same people are refreshing the page for next year’s opening dates.
