The autobiography of the iconic ’90s dance music producer and artist is released on July 4, 2026 — Independence Day — opening the story of a New York-born artist to a global readership
Artist and producer who helped define the sound of ’90s dance music, Carl Fanini announces the English-language edition of his autobiography “Back From Nowhere Land” (VOVEO editore / Overtones series), available from July 4, 2026. The release date is no coincidence: born in New York, Fanini chose Independence Day to bring his story back to its roots and to the international audience that followed him across five continents.
The paperback edition (ISBN: 979-1282490306, price €12.90) is an intimate and compelling account that weaves together global stages, personal crises, and the rediscovery of artistic authenticity. “Back From Nowhere Land” traces Fanini’s life from the glittering heights of international charts to a quieter, more essential dimension — revealing untold stories from the golden age of dance, the collapse of major-label contracts, and a rebirth through more honest music. The title, a metaphor for a limbo between reality and dream, becomes a mirror of an existence in which success and identity are in constant pursuit of each other. Through irreverent anecdotes, memorable encounters, and the falls that forged his resilience, Fanini offers not only a tribute to the ’90s, but a universal reflection on the power of music as an existential compass.
More than a year after the Italian debut, Fanini looks back with satisfaction: “I can say that ‘Back From Nowhere Land’ has had a journey that has given me great satisfaction. It is a very personal book, in which I recounted not only my career in ’90s dance-pop, but also the more human side of the journey: the successes, the difficulties, the falls and the fresh starts. What struck me most was the affection of readers. Many wrote to me saying that, beyond the music, they recognised themselves in the emotions and experiences I describe. That is probably the most beautiful recognition I could have received”.

The decision to translate the book into English comes from both biography and demand. “Given that I am a native English speaker born in New York, my story has always been international — and it actually started abroad, with my first television appearance in Madrid on Telecinco. Let us not forget that ’90s dance music crossed Italian borders and reached many countries, where audiences still follow that era with great affection. In recent months I have received many requests from fans and industry professionals in Brazil, France, Australia, the United States and many other places who wanted to read the book but did not know Italian. Translating it into English was therefore a natural step: it means allowing those who followed me around the world to get to know not just the artist, but the person behind the scenes.”
Looking ahead, an audiobook is already in development. “It is a project we are working on with enthusiasm. Two young guys, Alessandro and Gabriele, have stepped forward to produce it. I believe an autobiography told in one’s own voice has a special value: it allows emotions, memories and nuances to come through that on the page remain entrusted to the reader’s imagination. There will also be new initiatives linked to the English edition: the goal is to keep ‘Back From Nowhere Land’ alive and reach new readers around the world.”
A pioneer of the European dance scene in the ’90s, Carl Fanini has topped charts in more than 15 countries and collaborated with internationally renowned artists. Today he combines music production with autobiographical storytelling, keeping alive the legacy of a revolutionary era.
“Back From Nowhere Land” is available in both Italian and English editions on voveo.it.
